Photo Story Spark.me 2015 – because pictures speak louder than words

Published on June 7 at the main blog

A long time ago I said that I will make a photo story about Spark.me conference, a kind I like to read on other blogs. And here it is, because it has been a couple of days the conference ended, impressions are settled and I found some spare time to choose photos. This is looking through my eyes to the conference and my stay in Montenegro.

My trip was actually started on Friday, May 30. I traveled by bus to Sarajevo, and by car with Dobrila to Pale. There already was Snežana, waiting for us, because she came earlier from Belgrade. And all that was because we want to start our trip early on Saturday because we want to spend some time on the beach in Budva.

These photos I made on the fishpond at the source of the river Miljacka in Pale. We ate there an excellent trout. Trout swim in these pools on the right photo. On the left photo you can see river Miljacka. It is so clean here so you can pour it in a glass and drink. You can smell the air here too, and it almost made me sick because I am not used to clean air in Zenica.

We started our trip at 5:20 am and stopped in the bakery. After that we stopped at the Tjentište for breakfast. You can see the monument in the distance. What you cannot see in the photos is cold. Because of it, we ate our breakfast hopping in.

Here you can see (barely, I know) the museum and the hotel. They worked a long time ago. The hotel is ruined, and I do not think the museum is in a better condition. Yes, it is excellent, completely untapped tourist potential.

And suddenly the sun rise behind the hill and I looked at one of the most amazing scenes in my life. Here is dew evaporates from the grass, but this photo recalls only about 20% of the real beauty.

We always travel to Montenegro over Foča, through Čemerno, Bileća and Gacko. This is Bilecko lake, also one of the untapped tourist potentials. It is disappointing, I agree.

When we get on the ferry, we are very close to Budva and Bečići. The ferry Kamenari – Lepetani – it is a short ride. I hope I will remember someday which is Kamenari and which is Lepetani.

We arrived in Bečići at 11 am and checked at the hotel Mediteran. It is the location of the conference and we are staying there.

This is the view from my room, and above the bed you can see this picture with sheep :))

First swim of the season. It was cold in the beginning, but I enjoy despite that. I slept on the deck chair later and my skin burnt. It was not fun at all.

I do not see green stones on the beach so I collected a couple of stones. I brought them in Zenica. Maybe because of that my Dad asked me why my bag is so heavy, like I carry stones in it. He would not believe me if I told him. 😀

We took a walk to Budva in the evening with other participants of the conference. This photo was made in some biker style club. The music in that bar was totally unadjusted to the interior. 😀

I was one of the official bloggers on Spark.me conference. To get this status I need to write a text about why I want to attend this conference. Based on that text I was selected, together with other bloggers. We get a registration fee, accommodation, and the cruise through the Boka Kotorska bay. My other duties were to write two texts before the conference, one during the conference and this – one after the closure.

Bloggers are sitting in the first row on conferences. This is one selfie before the beginning with my roommate I finally met. She is fascinating Zagrljajnost who also write the blog. I recommend her texts with all my heart.

This became the tradition – marking the beginning of the conference with sparks. Because it is Spark.me conference 🙂

And we began with lectures. On my main blog I wrote about how Ramon made me cry. I must tell you that all lectures are online and you can watch them too. Ramon’s lecture is called  “Humanizing Your Brand – One Conversation at a Time” and you can watch it here. Paul Papadimitrou talked about “Innovation in the Age of Distributed Power” and his lecture you can watch here. Paul had a cool golden pair of shoes 🙂

This is Igor Milić, official photograph of the conference. He recorded all interesting moments and made hundreds of photos. All that you can see on Facebook: first day, second day and cocktail party. All organizers had this cool T-shirts so we can recognize them easy and ask them for all that we need.

One look at our first row in the hall. Yes, this is one of a kind of conference where all the people look at their smartphones or laptops while they are listening lectures :))

Next three lectures were also very interesting. They are online so you can watch them. Amy Guttman lecture was “Journalist’s Notebook – How to Sell your Story”.

Steli Efti thrilled people with his story “How Silicon Valley Made Me Think Small”. I recommend his lecture to everybody, you can watch it here.

Tina Thygesen lecture thrilled a couple of bloggers. Her lecture you can watch here.

After them there were two more interesting lectures. I wrote in my main blog about how thrilled I was because of Peter Sunde. His lecture “Lessons from the Past – What’s Wrong with the Future” you can watch here. Christopher Fabian also was excellent and his lecture “Making Small Things Big” you can watch here.

This day ended with the cocktail party by the pool in the Splendid hotel. This is that photo.

The second day we started with one selfie 🙂

Lectures were excellent on the second day too. First on the stage came Pankaj Ghemawat with the story “Globalizing Montenegro”. Yes, I know it sounds interesting. You can watch lectures here.

Timo Vuorensola was second and I also mentioned him in text on my main blog. He is one of my four tasks for next year. Interesting lecture “Producing with the Audience” you can watch here.

The third was Dave Birss who gave us this interesting website This Site Inspires .Me. He also had an interesting lecture – watch it here.

And here I have three photos. There are Jennifer and Jeffrey Buxton on the first. Their lecture was “Beauty and the Beast: Content Marketing vs. SEO”.

On the second photo you can see Hjörtur Smárason. I watched his lecture again this morning and I recommend it. Here on the photo you can see that he used “Balkan” in his presentation. He spoke about how we must use our benefits instead of focusing on our imperfections. Yes, we know how good we are at that, but it is nice to hear when someone like him said this. Otherwise, Hjörtur is thrilled with Montenegro and he said that a couple of times on his Twitter and Instagram Profiles. The lecture “Reversing the Brain Drain and the Future of Work” you can watch here.

On the third photo is professor J.B.M Kassarjian whose lecture is not online. He thrilled the audience and I am sorry that you cannot see him.

I have not photo with Marvin Liao and his lecture “From Startup to Scale Up” which I recommend to all people interested in startups. It was excellent, but I forgot to make a photo. Yes, you can watch the lecture here.

This is hotel Mediteran from the front side. There are many people who swim in this pool, but I prefer swimming in the sea.

The third day of the conference was reserved for cruising through the Boka Kotorska bay. The cruise was organized for partners and participants. Here on the photo we drink coffee in Porto Montenegro in Tivat. How I spent on the cruise two years ago you can read here. We almost had the same path, but the photos are different.

This is the view from the café where we were sitting. Porto Montenegro is lovely decorated and it is really worth a visit.

And here we stopped for some swimming.

Then we met this huge cruiser ship which looks fantastic.

And this is the view on the island Sveti Đorđe and town Perast.

Right across the island sveti Đorđe is island Gospa od Škrpjela. We stopped here and took a walk. Some of us visited the church and the museum.

There are many interesting things in the museum, and I made pictures of some that brought my attention.

I liked the play of lights the most, so I took pictures from the inside. In the right photo is view on the Perast.

Windows again. And the painting which I liked the most. There are many nice paintings in the museum.

And one more, the last swimming. I think it is a real pleasure swim from the ship. I didn’t try it because we were going home right after cruising so I already packed my swimsuit. What a mistake that was. I will not make the same mistake again, that is for sure.

That was it. We started our way back home about 5:30 pm and we came to Sarajevo at 23:00 pm. My phone battery was empty, so I do not have photos from that part of the trip.

I said this to the organizers, but I must write this again – every year this conference progresses. Every year they made better conference than previous. This was my third visit and I think this is the best recommendation. It allows me to make a comparison and I can say the progress is noticeable. That is why I am looking forward to the fourth Spark.me conference because I know it will be excellent.

This conference is not closely reserved for one profession and that is the main advantage. Whether you are an individual who wants to learn or entrepreneur of any kind of profession – you will surely find something for you. I heard impressions from completely different people who works on different jobs. They all found something that thrilled them or was useful to them.

That is why I can say – see you next year!
